Health care professionals, family members of patients or patients themselves, in need of medical treatment far from home can request an Angel Flight East mission. Our Mission Coordinator will conduct a preliminary evaluation to determine if a mission is within our guidelines and appropriate for our resources. AFE does not coordinate ground transportation or arrange overnight accommodations for patients.
Patient Condition:
-
Each patient must be ambulatory and capable of entering and exiting small aircraft with minimal assistance.
-
Patients must be able to travel in a small, unpressurized aircraft, without access to lavatory facilities or space to move about, for the duration of the flight.
-
If a patient requires in-flight attention, he/she must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Angel Flight East aircraft are not equipped for medical emergencies.
-
Angel Flight East patients must return a completed Medical Approval form signed by a physician indicating that the passenger is in satisfactory condition to take the flight. The Mission Coordinator cannot arrange a mission until this form is received.
Financial Need:
Angel Flight East’s missions are provided by volunteer pilots who donate their time, aircraft, and all additional costs (i.e. fuel and landing fees) incurred by the flight. Therefore, the patient should only request a mission if they cannot afford to travel by other means or if they are not able to travel commercially due to a suppressed immune system. AFE requires that the Financial Need Verification Form be completed and returned before the mission can be coordinated.
To request a flight, call our mission coordinator at 1-800-383-9464 or 215-358-1900.
